Marsden firefighters New Home Opens

The Retained crew at Marsden Fire station have taken over the premises at Emergency House. It's almost next-door to the old fire station built a century ago on Manchester Road. The move ends fears that the village would be left without a fire station.

Colne Valley councillor Gordon Beever, who is also chairman of West Yorkshire Fire Authority, said it had ensured the future of Marsden's crew. Emergency House a Larger six bay station will meet all the requirements for the area. Councillor Beaver said: "This 20-year-old building is in the ideal location.
"Marsden is not a busy fire station, but it is a focal point for the local community and has traditionally provided an excellent and cost-effective service."The firefighters will share their new home with Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team.Kirklees Mayor Clr Margaret Fearnley and West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer Phil Toase were at the official opening.

Closure of Hebden Bridge Fire Station

Hebden Bridge Fire station on Hanging Royd Lane was constructed in 1965 and closed on the 3rd March 2006. The closure follows the resignation of 6 crew members from the Station. There had been speculation over the past year as to what might happen in the Calder Valley area, and this move now brings these matters to an end. Two of the remaining crew have moved to Mytholmroyd to continue working for West Yorkshire Fire Service. Below is a breakdown of fire calls attended in the last year 2005.
