Blog Post New Entry

Command Unit

Posted by graham on January 25, 2009 at 9:29 AM

A new Brigade Command Unit is currently being built by outside contractors. It will be similar to the one in service at present ...not sure which chassis it will be but more than likely on a Volvo.

Yes it will and then the Batley CU will be the spare Command unit. At present the brigade still has the old Pod Command Unit at Shipley as a spare, I understand that this will go when the new one arrives

It doesn't seem 2 minutes since the present CU was introduced, New CU, New Helmets, New Uniforms, Maybe new Appliances - Where is all the money coming from?

Compared to other Brigades who are still driving Dennis RS & wearing the old Cromwell design Fire Helmets.

At least we can safely say that WY is probably one of the more modern equiped Brigades.

i think its across all 3 emergncy services, the police are getting vast amount of new equipment as are we on the ambulances, were getting a 'proper' CU too,

I still occasionally see and hear one of the older Volvo's - S803 EUB being noteworthy the nice thing is to hear the 'Two tones' makes a change from the usual modern siren.

Does the CU sound the same as the Volvo's when on the Blue light run?

I see the CU very regular, But cannot recall hearing what siren it has, Does it have a 'Duller lower' siren?

I have heard an 'Odd' sounding whirl on occasion from my home, But never seen the vehicle.

Cheers.
Mark.

Mark, I could not agree more but then again maybe I am bias as I now own S 803 EUB and yes the two tones are the best - ask Graham as he had great fun sounding them at Truckfest at Haydock Park the other week
