After search it proved that all persons were out of property prior to arrival
of fire service. 1 male and 1 female from flat involved in fire suffered from
smoke inhalation, also 2 females from adjacent flats suffered smoke inhalation,
all 4 were transported to hospital by ambulance.

At 16:38 on January 10, 2009 a fire appliance was involved in a collision with
three members of the public whilst responding to reports of people trapped in a
house fire in the Lockwood area, Huddersfield. One man was taken to
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) with serious
injuries. Two women were also taken to HRI with
injuries not believed to be serious. Speaking of the incident, WYFRS Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Steve Beckley, emphasised,
"Our first concern is for the recovery of the three casualties' and the wellbeing of their families". "Whilst our fire
appliance drivers are trained to a high standard to minimise risk to other road
users when responding to emergencies, regrettably accidents can still
happen". "The members of the fire crew who were involved did
everything possible to assist and give first aid to the casualties at the
scene. They are all deeply shaken by what has happened and are receiving
our support". West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is
conducting a full internal investigation into the incident in addition to the
Police investigation.
