21/01/08 - Flooding - 11:50  update
The following statement has been issued by Ian Gilchrist, Head of Operations Command at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. "West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is experiencing a high volume of calls due to flooding in some areas of the county – notably Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Wakefield.
There are a number of flood warnings in place across West Yorkshire.
The public should be aware that in some cases we may not be able to help with flooded premises until the water subsides, but if in doubt the public should not hesitate to call us on 999."

Widespread flooding - 11:00 update
Barnsley Road, Newmillerdam. Several properties affected by flooding. Wakefield and Ossett in attendance pumping out.
Market Place, Slaithwaite.  Three properties are affected by flooding, including an electricity sub station. Two pumps from Huddersfield, one from Marsden and one from Meltham are in attendance pumping out.

Widespread flooding particularly affecting Huddersfield, Wakefield and Calder Valley.  Approx 60 houses affected in Armitage Bridge area of Huddersfield.  1 male rescued from vehicle when got stuck in ford at Gawthorpe Lane, Huddersfield. A temporary shelter has been set up at Netherton Village hall for residents.

Water Rescue - 8 year old child stuck on ledge in a beck. The child had been in the water but had pulled himself onto the ledge, water rescue crews and crews using line rescue equipment, rescued child from the child. Child then left in the hands of paramedics

Crews used 3 Ground monitors and aerial Ladder Platform monitor to deal with this incident. Some local residents were evacuated as exclusion zone of 200m set up around the incident.

Flat Fire - First floor flat involved, 1 Hosereel jet and 2 Breathing apparatus were used. A female occupier aged 74 suffered shock and smoke inhalation and a female occupier of the flat next door aged 45 also suffered an asthma attack due to smoke inhalation.  Both casualties were given oxygen therapy by Fire Service personnel, attended to by Ambulance crews on scene but did not attend hospital.
