ensured that the children were safely removed from the house and have been
transported to Pinderfields hospital along with the adults by ambulance all
suffering smoke inhalation. Smoke detectors were fitted in the property
but we are unaware at this time as to whether they were
working. It is vital that we stress the importance of having
smoke detectors fitted that are working and have
batteries installed and that they are tested on a weekly basis. Also it
is important to have a clear escape plan in case of an emergency so that you
can get out of the property quickly ensuring all landings, hallways and
stairways are clear of any obstructions. The Fire Service offers a free
Home Fire Safety Check service where we will come to the property giving
general Fire safety advice and fitting free smoke detector. You can
arrange an appointment using our website or by ring our freephone number
